This exhibition displays art created by students receiving the Eduard Buss and Ferguson Fine Arts Merit Scholarship awards from Highland Community College. This is the fifth year the museum has hosted this exhibition. “We are honored to provide an exhibition space for these talented students to show their work; they are very deserving of recognition” ~Jessica Caddell, Freeport Art Museum.
Each year, Highland Community College offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities designed to assist students in their studies. The Eduard Buss and Ferguson Fine Arts Merit scholarships are two such scholarship programs designed for full-time Fine Arts students. Students receiving an award in either of these two distinguished scholarship programs must meet specific criteria concerning studies in Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts. The students included in this exhibition curate the show by selecting their most successful works to be included, have written artist statements, and also prepare and document the art for display. “For many students, choosing, preparing, and titling a work of art, is a facet of working as an artist they may not have previously experienced. To be included in this scholarship exhibition, the students had to go beyond simply meeting required academic standards; they’ve worked hard to reach this level of completion and this experience provides them with additional insight concerning exhibiting.” ~Robert Apolloni, HCC Art Instructor and Gallery Director.
