Patterns from Panama

April 20 - June 23, 2018

Opening Reception Friday, April 2th, 5-7 pm

Patterns from Panama will display molas and other objects from the museum’s permanent collection. The mola is a handmade material that forms part of the traditional outfit of the Guna people (formerly known as Kuna people). A mola is a textile which is commonly attached to the front of a woman’s shirt. The piece is hand sewn using multiple layers of fabric combined to form pictures and patterns using the appliqué sewing technique.
